FEEDSTOCK: Biomass (woody)
END PRODUCTS: Urea
RESEARCH NOTES:
[Update pending …] BioNitrogen’s Hardee County plant in Florida was going to have been the first of its proposed biomass-to-urea projects. It was originally slated to enter production in 2014, with a groundbreaking ceremony announced for the third quarter of 2013 – this never happened. The project may move forward but no revised schedule has yet been announced.
The first $2 million capital was confirmed in December 2013. The feedstock feasibility study was completed in February 2014 – a requirement for full project financing, which will include $175 million in Florida State bonds and a 10-year, 80% county tax abatement.
Feedstock supply contracts are in place for 350,000 tons of biomass per year; the Hardee site received biomass deliveries from CF Industries’ phosphate mining operations; it is unclear what impact on feedstock supply, if any, came from the 2014 sale of CF’s operations to Mosaic. [/memberful]
